I run because I can. When I get tired, I remember those who can't run, what they would give to have this simple gift I take for granted, and I run harder for them.


Pictured above are me and my 26-year-old son on the basketball court. Because I run, I am a better basketball player. At the age of 49, if not for running, my basketball sneakers would have retired 10-15 years ago. When I was 35 years old it was a basketball injury to my knee that caused me to have major surgery. Well-meaning friends told me at 35 years old that I was too old to keep playing the game of my youth.

After knee surgery, I refused to be sidelined forever. I got back into running and in 2013 started Keep Calm and Run To The Best You! I’m grateful for the journey. I’m grateful that because of running I get to work with beginners to run their first 5k as well.

I asked people in the streets their answer to the question: Because of running you are better at __________

I got answers from I’m a better:

  2. Worker

  3. Mate

  4. All Around Athlete

Those are some pretty special things that we all achieve to be better at. The great thing about running is that you can start today and receive these benefits. It’s not just for those that have been doing it for a certain amount of time. So Keep Calm And Run To The Best You!
