Workouts To Enhance Your Runs From Anywhere w/ Rachel Guevara

In this week’s blog and podcast, we talk to Rachel Guevara, of Lift & Glitz Training Studio about workouts we can do to enhance our runs. We also delve into the importance of recovery, both mentally and physically.

I really appreciated my talk with Rachel, she is full of life and ready to share her experience with other women. Rachel started her women’s only gym 4 years ago. Lift and Glitz are starting their fifth season. Rachel and I share a synergy like no other. I started my run, walk program 6 years ago and we are starting our seventh season for the purpose of giving people something to train for. Run To The Best You helps the community get healthy one step at a time in a comfortable environment. Lift and Glitz help the community of women get healthy on rep at a time in a no-judgment zone. When Danielle Selassie asked me to do a podcast episode on workouts to do to enhance running and why rest is important with recovery, I couldn't think of a person I wanted to interview more than Rachel. Rachel was gracious enough to lend her voice on this week's podcast episode #34. We share some of the same clients in the past, and I’m sure after this collaboration we will continue to help our communities grow together.

We wanted to know from Rachel, what exercises we can do to enhance our running experience. Rachel delivered in a major way. In this blog, we will keep it super simple as Rachel did when explaining what we can do.

  • Be Mindful of Building Leg Strength

  1. Wall squats: flat back against the wall in a seated position. Hold this for one minute or longer. For a challenge, try holding one leg up, and squeeze the quad.

  2. Lunges are very good with the proper form.

  3. Calf raises off of your steps at home.

  • Don’t Forget Your Core:

  1. Planks (All variations)

  2. Reverse crunches

  3. Hanging leg lifts

  • Build a Powerful Chest

    Rachel says nothing makes her feel stronger overall than having a strong chest area. As we build our chest we strengthen other muscles at the same time. Simple push-ups helps build your core, back, shoulders and chest. Coach Tadris often says: “We run with more than just our legs. We run with our heart, arms, mind and heart.”

  • Make Rest A Part Of Your Workout Routine:

  1. Day off between run days, supplemented by a strength training day. This way you are not over taxing the same muscles everyday.

  2. Take one or two full days off per week.

  3. Do something that will really relax you like (A facial, day at the spa, stay afloat salt tank, and whatever your heart desires that will help you to relax and recover from all your hard work.)

In conclusion, Rachel wants all ladies to know that you do not have to be afraid to do strength training. You will not turn into the Incredible Hulk! Best believe women that are that jacked are taking major supplementation to look that way. Instead, you will feel leaner, run more efficiently and feel strong.
