Self Care For Parents pt. 2 w/ Sandra Martinez (Podcast)
In this week’s podcast, we will be continuing our discussion of self care for parents. In particular, parents with children that have disabilities!
Last week Lisa Gallagher gave us valuable information on resources for parents who have special needs. One organization was www.faces4autism.org. Another great source is an organization that I’m very fond of and that is The South Jersey Field of Dreams! Field of Dreams helps children and adults with special needs get involved in the game of baseball. Every year Keep Calm and Run To The Best You supports this organization by hosting a special 5k event. Our event raise money to help the organization maintain the grounds and provide food for the games. The Keep Calm and Run To The Best You 5K will be held May 30th, 2020, in Absecon NJ.

Sandra is a mother of 2 children Cassandra (30) and Anthony (20). Anthony has autism and is a active member of the South Jersey Field of Dreams organization. Baseball isn‘t the only sport Anthony enjoys. Anthony plays basketball, runs 5k’s and is a black belt in karate! Anthony has been active in these activities since the age of 6. Children with Autism are drawn to water, so mom got him swim lessons at an early age! Sandra chose not to see Anthony’s disabilities, instead see his abilities!
Sandra works swing shift. Sandra handles the special needs of Anthony and her family, yet and she still find time to intermittent fast & workout daily. Sandra shows up strong to 5k events with Anthony by her side as well as the whole ‘Team Anthony Rocks” crew!
