Health, Beauty and Confidence w/ Amanda Leopardi
In this week's blog/podcast we discuss how to take your confidence from a level 3-4 up to a level 10. We caught up with Amanda Leopardi of amandalinasbeauty.com to help us break down how busy parents can take time for themselves.
In today’s busy world full of distractions, it is so easy to neglect ourselves. We all wonder, where does all the time go? In this article we will help you with taking control of your health and break down the word beauty as well as show you how the two will lead to your overall self -confidence.

Health:
What is health?
Well, we learned from Dr. Grife there is a difference between health and wellness. A person can be overweight and in a happy place emotionally. A person can be considered fit and healthy but not well mentally. The definition of the word health means, the state of being free from illness or injury. Another definition states that it is a person's mental or physical condition.
As a coach, I help people run their first 5k race and in turn, this helps them with one aspect of their health. On the surface that one aspect is your physical health. However, it is my belief and studies support my belief that running helps with your mental health as well. Often times a person leaves the house with a problem and come back with a solution. When returning from a run people express being in a better mood. After a long day at work, you can go for a one or two-mile run and be in a better mood for your family. Many of my client's mates have thanked me for helping their mates become much nicer through the running process. Running helps to build your immune system and you will find yourself not having an excuse to call out of work. Many times people think that it is too hard to run so do not want to start. Did you know that walking brings the same anaerobic benefits as running? We practice the run, walk, run method on a regular basis. This method has allowed many of our members go on to complete half marathons and marathon with no injuries.
As a busy father I try to utilize the morning before my son wakes up to get myself a workout in. I sometimes do not have time for a training run, but I always make time to at least walk the dog for a mile or 2. I started a streak to keep me motivated to always keep my body moving. I think that sometimes streaks can be overwhelming for some, however we can have a healthy view of a streak. My streak is walk or run at least a mile a day. I never recommend a person run every day anyway. Anyone with a dog can easily use that to their advantage no matter how busy life gets. I save my long distance training runs for a weekend. As my son sleeps in on Sunday, I dominate the boardwalk, track or trail. - Coach Tadris
Beauty:
One definition of true beauty says: True beauty is the state of being authentic and sincere in a way that extends love to yourself and others. It feels real, safe, alive, playful, flowing, authentic, life-giving. We got a chance to talk with Amanda Leopardi on this topic. Amanda owns her own hair studio. Amanda also is a Younique Presenter, which helps women with their makeup. Amanda shares that true beauty really starts from within. When you are faced with challenges and are able to come out the other side stronger, that also is a beautiful thing. Both Amanda and I believe that it is not how much a person weighs that makes them beautiful or not. We also don’t believe that you have to look like anyone else on the magazine covers. Be the true you! Amanda does feel like it is important to wake up and take time for yourself before giving all your time and energy to others. For many women taking the “you time” to meditate, doing a morning workout and yes doing one's hair and makeup before leaving the home will have you feeling beautiful and happy. In Amanda’s words: “It’s not healthy to go around town unkempt.” So indeed adding time for beautification to your morning routine is essential.
As a busy single mother, things really started to change for me as I started to set my alarm for 30 minutes earlier than I needed to wake up. This allowed me some silence time to mentally set up my plan off attack for the day. I remember how great I felt after doing yoga when I was younger, so recently I began to set my alarm a hour earlier to incorporate some of that goodness. After that I shower wake my children and get them ready for the day. I often work from home and I do my makeup live on Facebook to inspire women from all over that they can achieve great things. - Amanda Leopardi
Confidence:
Let’s take a moment to put two and two together. Today we beat ourselves up about the number on the scale or some other perceived imperfection that we have about ourselves. The sad thing is, that some in our lives make us feel inadequate, that we are not good enough. This, in turn, eats away at our confidence. On a scale from 1-10 where is your self-confidence? Notice we said self-confidence? Why? We don’t need the approval of others in order to have confidence. Let’s look at an example: If we are not taking care of our health by eating foods that don’t serve us well. Our confidence in ourselves could go from 10 down to 7 or 8. If we have not taken any time to get exercise in our confidence can go from a 7 - 8 down to a 5 - 6 due to low energy levels. Add to that, a negative relative or co-workers comment about you, now your confidence in yourself goes from a 5 - 6 to 3 -4 or lower. The definition of self-confidence reads; a feeling of self-assurance arising from one's appreciation of one's own abilities or qualities. Now with buying out the time for ourselves before we get the day started by exercising, setting up the day with intention and doing our makeup, we will have a huge jump on keeping our self-confidence on a level 10!
