#130 - What If I Feel Self-Conscious When I Run?

In this week’s podcast I will be answering the question;  What if I feel self-conscious when I run?

This is race week for me as I am heading to Orlando to run my first full marathon in Disney. This week’s blog is going to be short and sweet as they are just my notes for the podcast.

Press play to get my full thoughts on this topic.

When it comes to beginner runners, one concern that comes to mind is what others may think about you as you are running down the road. People think to themselves several things such as: “I’m so slow, so I'm so heavy.”

My message to you -

Do not be concerned about what others think, because you are doing good for yourself!

What we play out in our minds tends to be the worst.

What others think;

“This person is inspiring me!”

“They are always out there, I wish I can be this dedicated”

“One day, I’m going to get back into running.”

You could be inspiring someone and not even know it. It doesn’t matter how old you are, the shape of your body, or the speed at which you run. In fact the worse you think you are the better the story will be when you crush your goals. Remember, all runners were new at some point. The first couple of times might be hard but you will get used to it.

The running community is very supportive and respectful. Just go to any race finish line to see this live in action.

If you are still feeling self-conscience here are a few steps to take:

  1. Drive to a trail to run out of sight of others

  2. Go early morning while slackers are still sleep

  3. Go to a park or loop around a lake or field where other beginners are trying to do the same as you.

  4. Make sure you are using the proper form. Run with good posture. Having good form and posture leads to good confidence.

  5. Buy some new gear. When you look good you feel good which will boost your confidence. You should always have a fresh pair of sneakers when running to avoid injuries. Ladies check out our blog/podcast on having the right sports bra.

Tip of the Week

Try a “nooner”

“Noontime running provides a triple benefit: daylight, a break from the workday, and a chance to avoid eating a heavy lunch.” —Joe Henderson, runner/writer

Agreed 100%  - Coach Tadris

Disney Marathon / Mickey Medal

2019 was my first runDisney experience. I did the half marathon there both in 2019 and 2020 and love the event. This year would be my first ever full marathon. That’s the only way I can get the Mickey Mouse Medal……. 26.2 miles of torture. The half marathon only gets you a Donald Duck medal. I can’t wait, it will not be torture, I trained for this. I have the run, walk, run system to help me finish strong! I Got This!

FUN FACT:

Oprah Winfrey ran a marathon in 4 hours 29 minutes.

I was going into this marathon with no time expectations.

Now with this fun fact, there is no way I’m letting Oprah beat me! 😂😂
