#158 - Don’t Be Your Own Obstacle

Episode #158 In this week’s blog/podcast we will discuss:

Don’t Be Your Own Obstacle……..

There is a laundry list of obstacles that can hold you back from reaching your running or weight loss goals. I’m going to help you to STOP being your biggest obstacle.

My name is Coach Tadris Parker, I have a passion for helping people become healthier one step at a time. My podcast is designed to help share stories of everyday people that are doing amazing things with their health through running, walking, and following a whole food approach. I have proven programs that have helped hundreds of people since 2013. Whether it’s our beginners RUNA5K program, our Run/Walk Club for semi-experienced runners looking to improve, or my NEW 1-2-1 Coaching Calls to help with the mindset around your fitness goals. All programs can be done in person or online. My blogs are my shorthand notes for the podcast.

This Week's Topic:

Rain. Heat. Humidity. Life will throw plenty of obstacles at your run. Don't let yourself be one of them.

In what ways can you become your biggest obstacle? Being too wrapped up, in your mind.

It’s summertime and there is a heatwave in NJ, this week in July. What are you gonna do? If you have plans of running a half marathon in the fall, the training starts now. Are you going to talk yourself out of training due to the heat obstacle? Or are you going to set your clothes out the night before and run before the sun comes up? With proper planning, you can schedule a date with yourself to run at dusk as well.

Excuses hold more people back from ever reaching their goals and dreams. Excuses are contagious too, so be careful who you listen to that complains about the weather. It may rub off on you.

We tend to get in our way, for some don’t like the rain, heat, or humidity. While others are held back by snow, wind, and cold. I have become accustomed to finding joy in all seasons. That’s how I ended up moving towards my 1,000-day streak of walking or running at least a mile per day. Out of those days, I only used a treadmill twice while I was on a cruise. All the other days were outside in all weather.

Many may think I’m crazy, but I feel as if this has built a certain type of determination and resiliency. I can take this into my business world, my family life, and my spiritual life. I’m working on improving three key areas in my life; My Energy, Work, & Love! In each category, we want to create an identity in each. For my energy, I’m identifying myself as an athlete! As an athlete I want to support my identity by eating clean, sticking to a training regimen, and participating in events. During my 1-2-1 Coaching Calls, I help my clients create these clear goals for themselves.

My goal in this episode is to help you to appreciate that, your ability to succeed, to fail, to win, or to lose is just a matter of your attitude.

Don't be your obstacle! Rain can’t stop you. Heat can’t stop you. Injuries can’t even stop you, if you train smarter to not get injured.

If you feel tired, we’re not telling you to go push yourself no matter what. That can cause you injury. As I talked about in episode #157 get the rest your body needs.  If you start to feel that burnout coming, take a day or two off. Consider even taking a few days off from work. Don’t look at any emails, don’t look on social media, and take a complete day off for yourself! Unplug and recharge, and come back fresh!

Life will always throw new obstacles in your path, with these tips, you won’t be one of them.  - love Coach Tadris

Text From South Jersey:

“Yesterday’s podcast (Episode #157) was so good. I want to listen to that Primal Endurance book now too!  I’ve been on somewhat of a run rutt and I wonder if it’s from too much training. I even gave myself a week to relax. Going to start cross training as well.” -JP of South Jersey

“I’m so proud of you for recognizing that you needed to take time to recharge. You will love this book and it will help you run smarter not harder. It will help you to run less, yet become faster.” - Coach Tadris

Mother Runner Love:

This week I’d like to highlight Lisa Polite: A 43 year old mother of two boys ages 2 and 13 years old. and Lisa is on fire right now. We have been talking about mother runners the past few weeks, and we got to include Lisa Polite in the conversation. We had relay races at our training a few weeks ago and it was so much fun. That’s when other members got to see her unleash her speed. We all got to see it. At practice the other day she was even leaving me in the dust. Here are what others had to say about Lisa:

“It’s been so nice to run with Lisa Polite these past few weeks! She jumped right in and brought great energy. Lisa’s on a mission and is already achieving great things. Not to mention, she’s got serious speed!” - Jessica Young

“Lisa Polite. There is nothing polite about her running. Cheese Louise... Watch out ya'll.  This speedy momma can run like the wind. Wooshaaa.... there she goes - Melissa Southrey

Thank you coming bringing your smile, energy, and determination to every practice Lisa, I’m proud of you, and as you can see, you are inspiring other mothers. Keep up your greatness. - Coach Tadris
